Alongside a rising tide of authoritarianism around the world, democracy in the US is truly at risk.
Through a well-funded 900-page playbook, the far right has made their plans clear: they’ll consolidate executive power, give the President control over the Justice Department, dismantle democratic institutions agency by agency and fire over 50,000 career civil service employees that keep our government running. This is not a typical election – there is much more at stake.
Communities for Democracy is a campaign to help people and groups of all kinds stand up for democracy amidst this year's election.
Rather than hide from the exhausting vitriol of our national politics, we want to change the narrative by making it easy and fun for people to engage in the election. We aim to help friends and neighbors come together to protect American democracy in ways that spark joy, creativity and human connection.
We're doing that through event festivals, digital activations and toolkits. We're enlisting community leaders and partnering with large national organizations.
We’re calling on local businesses, creatives and artists; journalists, neighbors and friends.
These organizations and community weavers are fundamental to our democracy, and their convening power is political power that can make a difference today.
We know there are many great organizations working across the country to protect our democracy. And, there are many candidates in close races who are fighting for our future.
We see our campaign as a platform to rally support for these organizations and leaders. We enable our event organizers to decide where the funds they raise go (so long as it's for a pro-democracy cause), and we invite groups already organizing events to list them on our site. Whether or not you’ve been involved in political action in the past, whether you typically vote Democrat or Republican, we invite you to join us.
